Student Senate's Teaching and Learning Committee is inviting parents and caregivers to share their expertise and knowledge with the students of The Brooklyn Latin School.
Dear Parents and Guardians, Spring is here, help us grow our community and sow the seeds of the future. As some of you may know, The Brooklyn Latin School has an extremely active and innovative Student Senate. This school year, our Student Senate’s Teaching and Learning Committee would like to collaborate more with the families and friends of our discipuli. We invite those of you who are interested in being guest speakers during our Monday Extended Homeroom period, at any point throughout this academic year, to fill out this google form. Ideally, you would be educating our school community on something that they would find both interesting and helpful beyond their days in the classroom. Here are some examples of what one may do during our extended homeroom: · Host a Q&A about your specific career. · Teaching discipuli life skills. (For example, if you’re a chef, teach them about basic meals that they can cook.) · Give advice on an industry you’re familiar with. (For example, if you work in finance, you can give budgeting advice.) Our extended homeroom sessions are live and broadcasted to all 800 discipuli over Zoom, on Mondays from around 11:30-12:30pm. As such, interested parties should have a reliable internet connection during their presentations, and would need to be available on a Monday sometime in April, May or June; we’d also love for interested participants to allot about 20 minutes for the entire presentation. In addition, we would like participants to have a Zoom or phone call with TBLS organizers a week or so before the presentation to go over any questions and review the presentation. Overall, our goal is that parents will use their professions and life experiences to give our discipuli relevant advice for this impressionable time in their lives.
