PA Meeting: Race in America, School Reopening and Building Update

Dear TBLS Parents and Guardians,

Happy International Women's Day to all of the women (including TBLS students) in our community!

Join us for the March Parent Association Meeting with a very special guest speaker!

Wednesday, March 17, 2021, 6-8:00pm

Click here to join. We are excited to be joined by Tonya Parris, president and founder of The Parris Foundation: S.T.E.M.ulating Minds, for a presentation and discussion regarding the construct of race in America and creating pathways to education for underserved communities. Ms. Parris came from a low income family in New York City. She raised herself up and out of her circumstances through education, attending Binghamton University, where she graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science, and University of Pennsylvania’s Moore School of Engineering, where she earned a Master's of Science in Engineering. Ms. Parris then spent 20 years in the corporate sector, working for premiere companies including Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan Chase, UBS, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs. She also founded and is the CEO of Parris Group, Inc., a training, consulting, and coaching firm that supports social and emotional learning through seminars, workshops, and retreats. In her commitment to serve others, Ms. Parris speaks about how we can each deepen our understanding and appreciation of the many ways in which race, ethnicity, and cultural diversity have shaped American institutions, ideology, law, and social relationships from the colonial era to the present.

How do you feel about the reopening of high schools announced today? Please complete this survey by March 16 to let the PA know how you feel about the reopening of TBLS and other high schools, blended learning, student activities and more. Your responses will help the PA determine whether parents and guardians would like to see the PA lead any actions regarding these important topics. We will discuss the results of the survey at the March 17 PA meeting after our guest presentation. See Ms. Billy-Wilkinson's explanation regarding plans for instruction at last month's PA meeting and town hall.
